When It Comes To The Democratic Party I’m Beating A Dead Donkey

I just reviewed my most recent Farlefty.wordpress.com blog posts. I’ve been doing a lot of Democratic Party bashing. The reason for this is that I am unmitigatingly hostile towards them because they–Pelosi, Reid, Wasserman Schultz, Obama, the Clintons–got us into this mess where the Republicans have taken over and Trump was enabled to gain the presidency by election fraud and voter suppression. Bernie Sanders never had a chance, not with the DNC and the Hillary Clinton campaign running the show. The Dems have been so focused on being Republican Lite with the veneer of liberalism that it turned off the Liberal wing and never, ever gained traction with Republican voters, and way too briefly with Independent voters.
Obama squandered his opportunity to unite and fix this country by just being another neoliberal Democrat. Most voters felt he was elected in a bait-and-switch campaign and never forgave the Democrats for pulling such a mass deception on them. Doubt my word? What happened in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016? Obama was reelected in 2012 only because most voters hated Mitt Romney more. But the Dems continued to lose out on regaining the House in 2012 and then lost the Senate in 2014. The massive political hemorrhaging of the Dem Party continued in 2016 when they finally lost it all. So, in essence, I continue to beat a dead donkey.
ALL of this could have been avoided if the old guard Dems were tossed by power enabling the Party to finally turn Left and start pushing and passing LIBERAL legislation that the polls continue to say that most Americans want passed into law. The Dems failed us by continuing to fail themselves. And now they’re history, folks. The GOP controls the entire political game for top to bottom, from the corporate media to how elections are run and how votes are counted–or left uncounted or even uncast. It even controls the Supreme Court. And this is why I will remain hostile to the Democratic Party. The Republicans are now the only game in town and you can bet they will never allow any other party to set up a winning game of their own.

Jason Chaffetz, Just Another Elitist Snob Republican Politician Destroying The Country

Chaffetz
Ok, the guy’s an ass because he’s your typical elitist right wing snob Republican politician who will never have to choose between the two. Chaffetz is out of Utah but unfortunately he has the power to kill access to healthcare for people nationwide wide. We can post complaints about him and his ilk on social media websites all day, every day, but it will not make one bit of difference because their constituents will still vote to reelect them. To voters like those, no matter how bad their lives are made by the Republicans they keep in office, they fear liberals and Democrats far more. To the average Republican voter, no matter what hell they’re put through during the dance (should they even be aware of it) they’ll stick with the ones who brung ’em.

Contending that there should be a choice is what makes him and the Republicans both venal and murderous. They view health care as a commodity, something to be purchased if one chooses to. They don’t view it as a human right and as a core function of any enlightened government to provide at no cost to its citizens. I see that Republicans are murderous because they plan to limit the poor’s access to Medicaid. In addition, for those whose income is too high to qualify for Medicaid, their Obamacare replacement will boost health care premiums and costs even higher, because everything legislation they pass that promises to increase competition and lower costs actually do the opposite of both. Look at the costs of airfare, cell phone service, cable TV, and…healthcare, every other industry where mergers and takeovers were allowed to run rampant (the Democrats being equally guilty in this). Don’t buy into the analysis that Obamacare had nothing to do with the original Koch brothers’ Heritage Foundation healthcare plan pushed by Robert Dole and then implemented by Massachusetts under Governor Mitt Romney. The whole thing is Republican through and through except for the prohibition against denying people with pre-existing conditions and the Medicaid expansion (which many Republican governors refused to implement).

And now those who giveth plan to taketh away come 2020. Healthcare will cost more for everyone but members of Congress, the Prez and the VP, and, of course, the wealthy. The rest of us will have less choice and more costs. And then the Republicans plan to destroy both Social Security and Medicare in the very same fashion If only national elections were like an open primary where everyone could vote wherever and for whoever they chose. But if the Republicans have their way, in about ten years it will be only those who they have designated as deserving to vote who will rubber stamp all elections as Republican victories. When that comes about, what Trump is currently doing to destroy the federal government and this country will only be a precursor to irrevocable and fatal damage. You thought things were getting bad under Trump? Just wait…

The Hillary Problem

I’m going on record with this prediction: The Republicans will win the White House and retain control of Congress in 2016. OK, let me back up for a moment. If the Democrats run Hillary Clinton as their presidential nominee, the Republicans will win the White House and retain control of Congress in 2016.

There have been a number of news stories about the number of makeovers (just about a story for every makeover) that Hillary Clinton’s public persona is being put through, written by Washington Post columnists who tended to practice their pro-Democratic punditry on the all liberal shows which no longer populate MSNBC. In fact, it sheds itself of Rachel and Lawrence (are there any other liberals still left on air?) it will complete its conversion to right wing TV programming by renaming itself Kit, which is a baby Fox. But I digress. Two examples of the ongoing search to find a Hillary Clinton who will click with more than her current voter base.

All of this punditry claiming she’s the front runner because she’s 30 points about of Bernie Sanders among Democrats and is the favorite among female Democratic voters is crap, for want of a better word I don’t want to use here. If anything she’s bleeding poll points and her handlers are looking ahead to looking back at 2008 all over again. If Clinton’s lead was so solid and formidable her handlers would not be tweaking her image so much in a frantic attempt to find something that clicks. So, this week Hillary is “funny” on the talk shows. You can see it on her face and hear it in her voice: “See? I’m being funny! Aren’t I being funny?” And now tough from the tough look on her face and her tough voice: “See? I’m tough! Aren’t I being tough?” And compassionate: “See the concern on my face? And don’t I sound concerned?”

It’s all image. Throughout all the funny, tough, and compassionate performances, not one word of substance has been issued through her mouth or through press releases. She wants to lower the cost of college for students and reduce the student loan debit load for borrowers. But how? “Aren’t I being compassionate?” is as specific as she gets. She’s talked about economic reform (“Aren’t I being tough?”)
while at the same time taking political contributions from corporations who benefit from the current economic policies.

It’s clear that she’s targeted being the first woman president for a long time, possibly before she met Bill. She attempted to share his presidency but she quickly distanced herself from him after Bill couldn’t get the Republican health insurance plan passed by Republicans. I would bet that his mishandling of his affair with Monica further increased that distance behind the scenes.

But apparently now she feels entitled to the presidency and that’s her problem because that’s exactly the way she comes across to liberals. Her supporters are trying to force feed her down the throat of the liberal wing of the Democratic Party using scare tactics to make the harsh medicine go down. “It’s Hillary or a Republican in the White House!”

But the Left isn’t swallowing it. Hence the ongoing efforts of her campaign managers to find a flavor of Hillary that will help the medicine go down. Because every flavor of Hillary tastes artificial. When you hear Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren talk you hear their authenticity, their commitment to their specific stances on issues and their proposed specific policies. Elizabeth Warren is engaging on talk shows, effortlessly being funny and serious by turns. Bernie talks tough because Bernie IS tough. His record on how he stands on issues along with his voting record speaks for itself.

Clinton knows that her voting record is a source of deep concern among liberals with her support of the Iraq invasion and her support of the USA PATRIOT Act and other right wing positions. As a Democratic U.S. senator she made a great Republican. And for that the Left doesn’t trust her and she knows that if she’s to not only snag the nomination and the election she’ll need the Left, Right, and Center of the Democratic Party along with all the Independents and disgruntled Republican voters she can muster.

But again, Hillary Clinton’s problem is one of lack of authenticity. Anyone other than her core supporters have no idea who she really is. And the person they think she is they don’t like or trust. She changes personas like she changes clothes for different political rallies, fundraisers, and interviews. It isn’t “Where In The World Is Carmen Santiago?” but “Who In The World Is Hillary Clinton?” If she and her managers can’t figure out who she is, how will people figure out which Hillary they want to vote for? They can’t and they won’t. That changes the actual threat to “If it’s Hillary there will be a Republican in the White House.” This is the reason the GOP very much wants to see Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign derailed. They never learned how to beat a populist Democratic candidate because they’ve never had to run against one. With Hillary, they’re looking at virtually one of their own. If you remember back to 2000 when Karl Rove derailed John McCain’s presidential campaign, the GOP definitely knows how to take out its own.

An Open Letter To Stephanie Miller, Assorted Mooks, and John Fugelsang

While you guys are high fiving each other over the radio about the Republican “defeat” over the payroll tax cut “victory” by Obama and the Democrats, you conveniently gloss over the fact that the Republicans actually got what they wanted from the federal unemployment insurance benefits “compromise”.  99 weeks of benefits would be cut to 73 weeks or as low as 63 weeks. In addition, states would be able to force UIB applicants to go through drug testing. The Republicans wanted to mandate that all UIB applicants be at least school graduates, but you can’t have everything.

The right wing should be ridiculed for it’s ongoing onslaught of Obama bashing, but in the case where they claim the Obama administration cooked the unemployment rate books, they’re right. None other than Sen. Bernie Sanders states the actual rate is close to 15% when you add back in those with expired UIB, those who have stopped looking, those employed part-time, and those working multiple part-time jobs just to get by.

And Sanders voted against the payroll tax cut bill.  Why? Because for every meager $40 extra per month the average worker sees in his paycheck, that’s $40 being diverted from the Social Security Trust Fund. Obama says the shortage will be made up from the General Fund and that he won’t renew the tax cut after this. Maybe, maybe not. But after two years of precedent, doesn’t sound too believable.

You folks with your six-figure incomes and investments have no idea what it’s like to be unemployed anymore because it’s probably been at least a decade for all of you.  With all of your liberal compassion for those who are the objects of bigotry and racism, where is your compassion for the hardcore unemployment about to have 5-6 months of benefits ripped from their hands. You love to quote the government line that things are getting better and unemployment is going down. Are you out looking for a job now? I’m 60 years old, have been out of work since last June and NO ONE will hire me for any job paying over minimum wage, and that’s only been an offer to test for that ONE job. Multiply my situation by a few tens of thousands of people, including the “99ers”.  When my unemployment is cut off 36 weeks early, what the hell am I going to do? President Obama, Harry Reid, and most of the Democrats support this travesty, which just played once again into Republican hands.

You all support gay rights and women’s rights, which is laudable, and Whitney Houston, which is questionable, but what about supporting the rights of the unemployed? The legislation would allow for states to try pilot training programs, but there’s that little question of funding those programs, but nothing to concern your little liberal heads over.

Your hypocrisy is maddening in your unqualified support for Obama and the Democrats. Once again the truly disadvantaged is going to get screwed by them. They’re no different from the Republicans in this. But it’s OK. I can just tune into the Stephanie Miller Show and laugh my troubles away at fart jokes. Norman Goldman is right: the labels no longer apply. Some “Liberals” you are.
