Trump Is A Sideshow Distraction, The Kochs And Their Ilk Are The Real Danger To Our Democracy

I’ve been saying this for months now. The Republicans already control Congress, the White House, SCOTUS, and have gained virtual control of the election process nationally and in most states.

Now their bosses, the Koch Brothers and others like them, having targeted the federal judiciary system. If they are successful, the Democrats will never, ever win back anything again and no “liberal” laws will ever be enacted. Those in effect now that the Kochs oppose will be struck down in the lower courts or be declared unconstitutional by the Koch employees on SCOTUS.

Stop focusing exclusively on the idiocy of Trump. It’s now clear he was intentionally put into office not only to do their bidding but mainly as a sideshow distraction.

The Kochs and their ilk have been pursuing this complete takeover for the past 45 years. They’ve been unwittingly aided and abetted by the neoliberals who seized control of the Democratic Party: the Carters, the Clintons, the Obamas, the Nacy Pelosis, the Debbie Wasserman Schulltzes, the Chuck Shumers, the Harry Reids, the Heidi Heitcamps, the John Warners, the Joe Manchins, the Jon Testers, the Chris Dodds, the Barney Franks, the congressional Black Caucus who backed Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders, etc.are all responsible for this. All the center of right gutless wonders who converted the Democratic Party into the Republican Lite Party.

We’re now paying for the fixation on building their own financial success as they pursued business-friendly legislation and warmongering at the expense of working to help make this country and the lives of the people who voted them into office better. If the Republicans are successful in further marginalizing and castrating the Democratic Party into total governmental impotence, then it will be our children and the ensuing generations to come who will continue to pay the price as well. I place full blame for the current state of this country, not on the Republicans but on the Democratic Party who enabled this to happen.

The story headline “In Chicago, Obama tells young leaders that ‘special interests dominate the debates in Washington’” is is total crap. From day one Obama was all about pleasing special interests by funneling unrestricted bailout funds to Goldman Sachs and the investment/banking industries in general. Yes, TARP was a Bush initiative but Obama and his special interest lackeys, Larry Summers and Timothy Geithner, made it like they were proprietors overseeing kids in a candy store, even giving out handfuls of candy, aka taxpayer funds, to kids like every day was Halloween night. The banksters knowingly and intentionally committed global financial fraud and not one CEO paid the legal price. We all paid for the bailout and not ONE institution was required to change how they do business to prevent it from happening again. Dodd-Frank? Please…

They’re still selling the same derivatives (under new names) and other unsafe “investment products” that are again propelling the financial industry to another meltdown. The housing bubble is building again (checked out home prices lately?) and once again it WILL burst.

Remember Obama’s pushing through of all those trade pacts? We’re now just learning of some of the secret offshore accounts owned by American citizens and corporations housed in Panama banks. Remember how he also tried to push the TPP and the Keystone XL crude oil pipeline? How about his months-long silence and hands off policy with the Dakota Access pipeline?  Additional construction of nuclear plants? Pushing charter schools to the detriment of public schools? The Obama presidency was all about special interests, except for the middle and low income classes. I guess we didn’t hold much special interest for him.

Obama didn’t do a damn thing to unify anyone. If he had, we’d have a Democrat in the White House, a Democratically-controlled Congress, and Merrick Garland, as flawed as he was, would be the 9th Justice sitting on the SCOTUS bench.

The Obama administration will not go down in history for what it was but for its failure to become what it could have been. If his “aspiration” was to unify Blue and Red states, why did he do so much to polarize all of us?

Trump, the Second Colored President Of The United States

I’m convinced that all the racists who hated Obama were not opposed to Obama because he was the first colored president. He was just the wrong color. None of them wanted a black president. They want a fluorescent, phony tan colored president.

John Boehner proved that for the GOP orange was the acceptable new black. I guess fluorescent, phony tan is the new orange…

 

 

Only White Presidents Are Referred To As “President” In The Corporate News Media

Racism is on full display on NPR and at least CBS Radio News. Throughout Dubya’s eight years every news program referred to him as President Bush. With Barack Obama (and you can check the audio archives) he was referred to as “Obama” in every news story that I heard during his eight years in office. I bet he’ll still be referred to as “Obama” instead of “Former President Obama”. Never or hardly ever “President Obama”. And now Trump has only been in the White House for 4 days and in every news story he’s either “Donald Trump” or “President Trump”. Yes, racism is alive and all too well in the corporate news media.

The Progressive Knuckleheads

This morning it was amply demonstrated to me that there are just as many knuckleheads on the Left as there are on the Right. Leftist knuckleheads call themselves “Progressives” because, I guess, the word “Liberal” is too retro for them. Too passé, so yesterday ever since the GOP made the term an object of ridicule. This is what makes people who call themselves “Progressives” weak because they bought into the GOP-overlaid shame in the Liberal name. Bernie calls himself a Progressive and look what happened to HIM?

Anyway, I had a post on Facebook that was based on something my wife said to me last night. She said the election will not come down to a choice between the lesser of two evils. It will come down to a choice of voting for who you hate the least.

Turns out it was much too True Blue for the likes of one admin in a certain “Progressive” (always with a capital P, mind you) Facebook group and so it was deleted it. My wife’s comment spoke the absolute truth. Jill Stein has not one chance in any hell you can imagine, in any hell in this or any other universe or dimension of being elected president. The choice will not be between the lesser of two evils. It will come down to choosing which candidate you hate the least. Which also means that it might be possible that neither candidate gets the majority of the vote, Paul Ryan’s House of Representatives will elect Trump president and Mitch McConnell’s Senate will elect the Vice-President.

I’m fine with that and all it portends for SCOTUS. My conscience is clear because I supported Bernie Sanders who was the ONLY presidential candidate who would’ve beaten Trump or any other Republican presidential candidate hands down. The system is rigged for Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic nominee, and you reap what you sow. I did my time under Reagan, two Bushes, Clinton, and Obama and survived them all. I’ve existed quite well under Republican-controlled Supreme Courts and I’ll continue to live the civil-rights circumvented life their decisions have wrought, along with anti-civil rights legislation signed into law by Reagan, the two Bushes, Clinton, and Obama. Bill Clinton helped advance the decline of the middle class and of the labor union movement started by Reagan. Obama did nothing to reverse any of it, choosing to further help all of it along.

Both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump—whoever is president—will finally push both the middle class and labor unions into the toilet and give it a quick flush to end both once and for all because that is who they’ve always been. Unless you’re a woman entrepreneur attempting a very small startup on some Caribbean island or in Africa or someplace (but somehow not in the good ol’ US of A). Then she has big innovative, technology-based ideas on how to help. Because creativity, innovation, technology, and internet access will lift all boats captained by poor, foreign women out of poverty, right? So they can shatter all those glass ceilings and take their rightful places alongside the male powerhouses that Hillary Clinton rubs shoulders with at her elevated, Mt. Olympian altitude high above us all. Too bad she has no innovative, technological ideas for how the internet can lift unemployed American male and female factory workers up to those same exalted heights.

Same goes for all the taxicab drivers now put out of work by Uber. Or public school teachers thrown out of work after their school districts opted to go with charter schools. Or the other jobs and vocations of common folk made obsolete by all the creative, innovative, and technologically-minded Harvard and Yale Law School and MIT graduates-(Thomas Frank in his book “Listen. Liberal” calls the Clintons and the graduates I’ve described as being professionals of the Liberal Class) who’ve creatively innovated millions of people out of work and careers through technology (as well as Democratic/Republican funding and support for the startups created by the professionals of the liberal class who graduated from those Ivy League schools and from MIT.

The Bernie movement is now leaderless. It needs charismatic and brilliant, effective leaders to carry it forward. By next year it will most likely join the news archives with stories about the Occupy Movement. I think that successful mass, national organization along the lines of the Civil Rights and the Anti-Vietnam War movements are a thing of the past. We’re too polarized, too content to let posting on the internet substitute for vast marching in the streets. The political game and the corporate media are solidly and iron-clad aligned against us. Effective this year there is no longer is a political party home for Liberals. We’ve been cast adrift in a movement that I don’t think has been constructed sturdy politically seaworthy enough to carry us to any future destination where Liberals can change the system and win back America.

Mitch McConnell Is Set To Let Slip The Dogs Of Judicial Chaos

So, what happens next in the battle for Scalia’s seat? Does Obama offer an “olive branch” SCOTUS nominee to the Senate, a judge with a corporate lawyer background who would be friendly to big business and moderate on most social issues? A candidate who would be a shoo-in with a rational, thinking person’s Senate devoid of the partisan political ideology of its hack Republican Majority Leader would order his people to approve? Judge Sri Srinivasan’s name is currently being floated as just such a possibility. Would McConnell dare pull down his drawers, squat down and crap on Obama, the nominee and the Constitution, using his butt in the effort to make a power grab?

Or, just to play with McConnell’s head and to further publicly embarrass him, does Obama nominate someone who is a real, certified REAL Liberal like State AG Kamala Harris of CA, for instance?

Last thing: Turtle Man is about to let slip the dogs of judicial chaos. In a split 4-4 SCOTUS decision or if the justices refuse to hear a case, the lower court decision stands. In the federal court system there are 12 circuits, most of them dominated by Democrats. Of the 13 federal courts of appeal, 9 are controlled by Democrats and 4 are controlled by Republicans. So a Blue circuit court might determine that religious organizations must give their female employees access to contraception through their health plans while a Red circuit court will uphold the religious right (and membership therein) of the organization say “Nicht”.

Because of this attorneys on their own ideological missions shop the different circuits to find a case to bring to them which should result in the desired verdict. This colorful patchwork of legal opinions and ideologies among the circuit courts serves to resurrect the rootin’, tootin’, shootin’ days of the Old West where every town had its own laws and ordinances. So, in some cases you can in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco but you can’t in the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals in Louisiana’s three districts. But in both circuits same-sex marriage is protected by the Constitution. Go figure.

So, until McConnell is reduced to a quivering hulk of rebuked jelly by outrage of the American people—AKA voters—to accept and approve Obama’s SCOTUS nominee, chaos will reign among the lower federal courts. Voter ID, gun control, same sex marriage, the right to an abortion, etc., will vary from state to state instead of conforming to one, unified federal decision from SCOTUS establishing it as the (hopefully Liberal) law of the land–for now. That is until the next Republican president is handed SCOTUS vacancies and installs their own Scalia(s) to reverse as much of it as possible—again.

But until then, sit back with your favorite snack and beverage and watch the fight. Who knows how long it will last? And who will history determine was the heavyweight and which was the lightweight? My guess is that when public outrage against this latest game of brinkmanship by the Republicans reaches firestorm level, McConnell’s political weight won’t even register on the scale.

Once Again The Senate Republicans Play The Shutdown Game

I predicted this would happen because the Repugnant-cons are entirely predictable in holding SCOTUS hostage, in effect, shutting it down for at least the next year and a half to play partisan politics, gambling that one of the Republican clowns inside the candidate car will find his way into the White House. If Bernie Sanders is elected president and McConnell loses his gamble, would he then try to go for double or nothing by extending the SCOTUS shutdown through 2018 hoping to add even more Republicans to Congress? Let would be his legacy going into 2020 when he will be up for reelection to the Senate.

Now, it is possible that the eight remaining justices will still hear cases already on the Court schedule. Some of the cases might be relatively easy for them to arrive at an unanimous decision, or at least 5-3. But an Affordable Care Act case where the ideological lines are drawn 4-4 with no swing votes to tip the decision one way or the other, well, what happens then? Kick it back down to a lower court for it to be kicked back up some time in the near or distant future when the Court is once again at full strength? How many other unheard cases would be sitting smack dab atop the Ideological Divide? This isn’t the Senate. You can’t bring in Joe Biden to cast the tie-breaking vote. This is what I mean by the Republicans shutting down SCOTUS because when it comes to those big, high profile cases concerning gun control or state anti-abortion laws and such, the justices will be able to decide nothing.

Mitch McConnell is claiming that a lame duck president doesn’t speak for the American people, therefore, Obama has no right to name a replacement for the not-so-dearly departed Antonin Scalia. What doesn’t McConnell understand about the Constitution? The one thing Scalia sometimes got right is that you don’t screw with certain sections of it. The president is elected to a four-year term, period. His power and authority are not diminished in his final year. Although Obama’s overall approval rating isn’t great, he still has enough support from these same American people–who voted him into office–to choose a replacement justice that the Senate Republicans should confirm.

But, that’s fine. This is an election year. Let the Republicans play their latest shutdown game again. President Obama and the Democrats should and hopefully will start a major media campaign urging the American people AKA voters to make it loud and clear that the Republicans don’t speak for THEM. That they already spoke for themselves when they reelected Obama president in 2012.
